I think that this is very clear and it was meant to be very clear whether the next election is next month, 3 months or next July. Our good luck has it that we have an election coming up in three months. Dont get me wrong I'm not in favor of Kathy either, but the overwhelming majority of messages that we recieved from people in the SW/SC region that stated a candidate in their message (not just said they were against Kathy or against picking the next highest vote getter) wanted Kathy to be appointed. So since we are supposed to appoint a replacement to serve until the next election and since the cc's that took the trouble to respond to our request for input from the SW/SC region are in favor of Kathy I still am in favor of proceeding with the recommendation that Betsy and I stated previously. If we appoint a temp person to replace Maureen and add that board position to the election, we are going to be down a person on the board from Bob's :-) region. Would it be a better idea to appoint a temp person for Maureen's position, hold an election for the NC and then hold another election to fill Maureen's spot and also the spot that the new NC used to hold? This is Betsy and my recommendation concerning the vacant cc rep position. Article VI, Sec 8 of the bylaws "In the event a board member is unable to complete his/her term, the Advisory Board will appoint a replacement to serve until the next scheduled election." We recommend that based upon input recieved from volunteers in the SW/SC region the Advisory Board appoint Kathy Heidel to temporarily fill the vacant position of cc rep for the SW/SC region until the next scheduled election. We further recommend that the position of cc rep for the SW/SC region be added to the ballot for the next scheduled election to be held in January 1999 for the purpose of electing a National Coordinator. All candidates should meet the qualifications for Local Coordinator Representative as listed in Art VI, sec 9. Kay, any problem adding this into election? This is a person who thrives on being the center of attention, even if it achieved through creating controversy where there was none before. Not what USGW needs right now, by a long stretch! Long ago, I sent her a personal note about something. She immediately cut and pasted it to the -ALL (and who knows where else) without even asking if I minded. She did send a note saying she had done it, but the note was sent AFTER the fact. Appointing Teresa means any and all comments made here, (along with the name of this "secret" list) would be pasted to the -ALL, complete with her personal "spin." This would also send a message that if you become loud and controversial enough to create a "problem" for the Board, they will "reward you" with a Board position. I don't think any of us want to give that kind of message to anyone! While I appreciate the "walk for a moon in my moccasins" philosophy, she is one person I truly believe would be too busy using her newfound position for her own purposes to ever learn anything from the experience. Since she resigned before the need for a special election, the board should have made an appointment and to hold an election that this seat is not the subject of the election the appointment would stand. Now, since we agree, let's appoint someone to serve temporarily until the NC election and include that seat on the ballot. :>) Those who would not prefer Kathy, who are outside of the region should give her a chance, in as much as she seems to be the preference of the region. As for leaks etc. to the all list, I would hope that the new temp NC would address such transgressions in line with the rules the board adopts and take whatever action is dictated by the board. No, we need to finish this one. The wolves are clammering at the door for us to get this done. I tried to send this to the board list last night at midnight and it didn't go through. I don't know where it is! I checked and I don't need a motion and second for this as there was only one nomination. Folks, we are starting in one direction and then getting sidetracked. Our region is just going to have to get over not having a vote on this one. This is only a formality anyway. I agreed to chair until an NC was elected. I think it would be better if I was in a position to vote on the other issue and not be the chair for it anyway. So, I am going to wait about 1 hour and then send this through again. Betsy ***** The chair has received only one nomination for Acting National Coordinator. Bob Bamford has agreed to serve if elected. I'm sure you will be a real asset. Just a brief introduction to how we are operating: This list is used for discussions and information transfer. We discuss an issue and once we reach a relative consensus, someone proposes a motion to be placed on the board list. Assuming their is a second we then call for a vote. If their is further disagreement it is discussed HERE. The intent here is not to be secretive, but to keep our internal disagreements from appearing to be dissension on the board.
